Your Language.
A letter about creation as a native language – it flows through everyone, and in each of us it takes a different form.
This site exists because of letters – Elizabeth Gilbert's practice of writing to Love and letting Love answer is where my own practice began. So the comparison was always near: her letters arrive as finely wrought prose, and mine don't. For a long time I read that difference as a deficiency.
This letter takes the comparison apart. The answer to "what should I create?" is already flowing – as inspiration, longing, intuition – and it takes a different form in everyone it flows through. "The Creative Process" traces the same movement, how inspiration becomes manifestation; this letter adds the release: the form it takes in you is not a lesser dialect. It is your language.
Code counts. Wood counts. Whatever is under your hands counts. Here is the letter.
Dear traveler,
"Dear Spirit – what do you want to let me create today?" – that is your question. And my answer flows through you constantly – as a stream of inspiration, vision, and imagination. As longing and as intuition. As energetic potential that wants to take concrete form. Wants to be manifested. Your language is creating. And when you recognize your will and the divine will as one, and simply surrender and let things "happen" – then you create in flow, in tune with your essence and your true self.
Creation takes a different form for everyone. Elisabeth (Liz) creates with language, with texts – and so her letters are more delicate. You create in your own way. With code. With wood. And so on. And in that, you reach the same delicacy.
So: feel the longing, the vision, the ease – and create through surrender, not through control. In your own, entirely individual way.
Thank you for being here.
If something in these letters stayed with you, take it along – think about it, write your own answer, or just let it sit.
And if not today, that's okay too. There's no rush.
Until next time,
– Jan
