Let It Be Simple.
When something new is about to begin, you don't need a plan – only attention to what resonates and what feels light.
I asked this question the evening before a new work engagement – bag packed, notes ready, and underneath it all the old fear: that I would fail, that I would not be enough.
The letter doesn't argue with the fear, and it doesn't hand me a strategy. It says: go in with no desired outcome – truly none – and let resonance do the navigating. What feels heavy or not good enough is not a verdict on you; it is simply not yours. "When Fear Returns" describes the same move from the practice side: fear cannot survive without something to feed on, and a desired outcome is exactly the food it looks for.
So this is a letter for the eve of anything – first days, first pages, first meetings. It asks less of you than you expect.
Dear traveler,
You are afraid. Afraid of failing. Afraid of not being enough. You know this and you accept it – just as you also know the other side: Have no "desired outcome". Truly NONE.
The right things/ideas/people/impulses always arrive at exactly the right time, in exactly the right form. You can trust in that. For you are on your way. As long as you are not willing, but following ease and giving yourself over to intuition – for that long you are guided, and you can let go.
Let go. Do not control. Don't even try to anticipate. Simply let yourself in, and feel where – or to whom – you are drawn. Feel where resonance arises, and focus on that, naturally. Where there is no resonance – or where it feels "heavy" or "not light" or "not good enough" – that is not wrong, and you have done nothing wrong. It is simply not for you, do you see?
Simply follow the person, the topic that leaps out at you and feels light. That is guidance and surrender. There is nothing more you need to do. Allow it to be simple, and be mindful of how it feels.
Thank you for being here.
If something in these letters stayed with you, take it along – think about it, write your own answer, or just let it sit.
And if not today, that's okay too. There's no rush.
Until next time,
– Jan
