The Distinction.

When ideas set the pace, the inner voice needs room to be heard – making that room, every morning, is a conscious act.

Some mornings I am at the desk before I have actually arrived in the day. Yesterday's ideas are already pulling, the plan makes itself, and momentum answers the question of what to do today before I ever asked it. It feels productive. It is also how I lose track of myself for weeks.

This letter asks for one pause before the first step: zoom out, and feel whether what you want to do today really feels good – or whether you just "want" to do it. Momentum says yes to both; only the inner voice knows the difference. "A Place to Go" calls that compass by name – your own felt experience, what feels good and what doesn't – and this letter turns it into a morning practice: giving the inner voice room is a conscious act, every day anew.

It is a short letter. Read it before you sit down tomorrow – before the ideas do the deciding for you.

Dear traveler,

Don't lose yourself in your ideas. Take a moment, again and again, to zoom out, pause, and come back to yourself. So that you don't lose sight of your inner voice. Giving the inner voice room, again and again, noticing it, is an entirely conscious act. So before you sit down in the morning and take the next step – take time to feel: Does what I want to do today really feel good? Or do I simply "want" to do it! It is about this distinction, again and again. Every day anew.

Thank you for being here.

If something in these letters stayed with you, take it along – think about it, write your own answer, or just let it sit.

And if not today, that's okay too. There's no rush.

Until next time,
– Jan
