Needs.
Having needs is not the same as wanting – name them, express them, demand nothing, and let intuition lead the way.
Since learning to create without a desired outcome, a new confusion had moved in: what about the things I actually need? Money, most of all. I caught myself treating the need to earn as a failure of trust – as if letting go meant pretending I need nothing.
The letter draws a line I hadn't seen: needs are not wanting. Be aware of them, it says, put them into words – and then watch where they come from, fear or clarity, and how you go about meeting them. "Surrender & Decision" describes this as the balance of a life neither dominated by control nor shaped by pure passivity; this letter applies it to something as unglamorous as earning a living.
If somewhere between trust and the unpaid bill you've lost your bearings, this one is for you.
Dear traveler,
Do you notice how your life has changed over the past years? You have changed your approach fundamentally and radically. Yes, you have the feeling that you do not fully trust yet – and indeed there is more to come here – but be aware that you have already shown a great deal of trust and courage in these past months and years. Let that resonate for a moment. You do have needs – but you have stopped wanting. And that is okay. Be open and "without a desired outcome" – but be aware of your needs and put them into words. And just as with wishes: Examine where the needs come from. From clarity? Or from fear? And then, here too, follow your intuition.
And yes – your need to earn money certainly has a share of fear and security in it – but also clarity and care. Try not to meet this need panicked or driven. But calmly and clearly. For the need itself is right – the question is: HOW do you realize it? With fear and control? Or with calm and clarity? From lightness and intuition. Feel where you are drawn. Follow the impulses. You see: trust and letting go do not mean being passive – but consciously active – following, not demanding. Express your needs – but demand nothing – and then follow your intuition. Do you see the way that opens up here? Exactly. That is the balance between wanting and passively doing nothing: putting your needs into words and letting yourself be guided, quite intuitively, from calm and clarity.
Thank you for being here.
If something in these letters stayed with you, take it along – think about it, write your own answer, or just let it sit.
And if not today, that's okay too. There's no rush.
Until next time,
– Jan
