On belonging – and the trust that the place you are looking for is looking for you too.
I have spent whole seasons auditioning for places – rewriting myself for a job, for a circle of people, for an audience. Reading what a room seems to want and offering that version instead of mine. Sometimes it works. And every place I win that way belongs to someone I was only pretending to be.
This letter turns the search around in one sentence: there is a place for you, and it seeks and wants you exactly as much as you seek it. That changes everything about the contortion – if your place is looking for you, every disguise only makes you harder to find. It is the move "Coming Alive" describes as staying in your own lane and coming home to yourself: the place that is yours cannot find a self you have abandoned.
The letter is only a few lines. Read it before your next audition – and notice what happens when you stop performing.
Dear traveler,
Be you. And trust that there is a place for you. And that this place seeks and wants you exactly as you seek it. And on the way there, be yourself. Hear yourself. And follow your inner voice.
