Messages From Beyond

Step Aside.

You don't have to push on when the lightness is gone – a step aside is enough to hear yourself again.

It usually happens somewhere in the middle. Something I began in complete lightness – this site, a piece of writing – quietly turns into something I have to finish. Same desk, same project; but now there's a deadline in my chest and I'm pushing, and I can't say when the shift happened.

The letter names the mechanism without drama: in the noise of everyday life, devoted flow turns into wanting – and right there, overwhelm, fear and stress begin. "When Fear Returns" traces the same root: fear cannot survive without wanting to feed on. And "The Distinction" guards this line in the morning, before the ideas take over; this letter is for the middle of the day, when you are already in it and the lightness has gone.

The remedy is small enough to fit between two breaths – which is exactly why I forget it. Maybe you do too. Here it is, then, in writing.

Dear traveler,

Do not forget the distinction between wanting and surrender. In the noise of everyday life it happens quickly: devoted flow turns into wanting – and right there, overwhelm, fear, despair and stress begin. The lightness evaporates. That is when you are called to take a step aside and remember the lightness. To let the noise fall silent. To breathe. To hear your inner voice again, to let go of the wanting and to surrender yourself again, full of trust. Feel. Follow the lightness. Nothing more is needed.

Thank you for being here.

If something in these letters stayed with you, take it along – think about it, write your own answer, or just let it sit.

And if not today, that's okay too. There's no rush.

Until next time,
– Jan
